PHOENIX â€" Phoenix Mercury guard Ketia Swanier has been helped to the locker room after being elbowed in the head by Los Angeles Sparks guard Kristi Toliver.
Swanier, a backup point guard, was hit in the face late in the third quarter Tuesday night when Toliver took a swipe at her while protecting the ball. Swanier went down holding her face and lay on the court for a few minutes before being led to the locker room by a trainer.
Toliver initially was called for an offensive foul, but officials later changed it to a flagrant foul. Sparks assistant coach Joe Bryant received a technical foul for arguing the call, and Toliver got a technical foul for another call a few minutes later.
